The week after next in C4

Happy Friday and Happy Fall Break! I know many of you have something super fun planned and I cannot wait to hear about it when we get back.

Reminders & Announcements:
  • Support the Pride kicks off September 30th
  • Thank you so much to all who donated or helped us make coke floats! Pictures will be on Dojo 😊
  • No school next week! Enjoy and relax!
  • I’ll submit our next Scholastic book order on October 31st. Class code: RBZR3
  • We are finalizing details for our in-house field trip at the end of October- more details to come after fall break
  • Today your child is bringing home a paper that shows you the mental math strategies we’re learning and using. Please feel free to use this if you want to do extra practice at home.
  • After the break, I am going to be more consistent using Dojo points and behavior notes when it comes to talking. I have been giving lots of warnings, but I am still having lots of issues with the kids talking when they shouldn’t be- especially in the hallway. I’ve given them new incentives and am trying some new techniques, but it’s out of control. Please help remind your child that we have plenty of time to talk and play at school, but while we are learning and while we are in the hallway is not one of those times.

What we’re learning (I am going to start doing this in the form of the “I can” statements that I use with the kiddos):
Math: I can solve addition and subtraction word problems + I can identify the value of a penny, nickel, dime, and quarter.
Reading: Reading is going to be a review of all the 1st quarter standards.
Writing: I can write a narrative story that includes a beginning, middle, and end with details.
Grammar: I can use collective nouns in speaking and writing.
Phonics: I can use the floss rule. *I have attached two documents for you that show the floss rule.
Content: I can classify objects by their physical properties

Next Week In Cottage 4

Happy Friday!
Reminders & Announcements:
  • Thank you to all who Were able to make it out to Open House on Monday! I missed seeing those of You who could not make it. Below are some reminders/things we discussed:
    • Students have opportunities to earn or lose Dojo points all week long. Losing 3 Dojo points in one day will result in a behavior note (hitting/kicking a peer is an automatic note home). If students have 15 or more points at the end of the week, they will get to go to the treasure box. I reset points every Monday.
    • We use all flexible seating in my classroom. The kids love it, and so do I. This gives them a chance to choose where they learn best. Each child signed a flexible seating agreement stating that they will choose the spot that is best for them each day and understand that misuse of flexible seating will result in losing that choice. I have some more flexible seating on my Amazon wishlist that I would love to add to our classroom.
    • Once I get the ball rolling with our daily schedule, I will begin posting volunteer opportunities. I like to have a weekly mystery reader, so please keep an eye out for that signup.
    • For Mathzor (fact fluency) please use this link; https://www.mathzor.com/teachers/classPanel?t=2520_YTlkMDdlZGEzYzRiZGVjY2FmM, find your kiddos name and use the password: 123
  • I will submit our first Scholastic Book Clubs order on September 1st. Class code: RBZR3
  • If your child brings a water bottle to school with them, please know that it may only contain water. No juice! We have already had a juice spill in the classroom, and it is difficult to clean up. If possible, please send a water bottle that they do know have to take the lid off of to drink from (like the ones with the straw the pops up). This will help reduce the number of spills altogether.
  • Please remember to send one healthy snack with your child each day. I am already flying through the snacks that have been donated.
  • Over the last two weeks, we have spent lots of time discussing rules and procedures in the classroom. We are still working on, not talking during a lesson and in the hallway. Please help remind your kiddo that it is important to listen and follow directions.

What we’re learning:
Reading: Story structure
Writing: Narrative writing
Grammar: Common/proper nouns
Phonics: Basic consonants
Math: Representing numbers and comparing them
Content: Regions of Georgia

Thanks for all you do! You’ve all helped us start the year off great!

Happy Friday!
Our first full week of school is complete, and it was wonderful!

Reminders & Announcements:
  • Today I sent home a sheet about ordering Scholastic books. I love the Scholastic online ordering because it’s so easy, the prices are friendly, and we can earn free books for our classroom! Our class code is RBZR3  https://clubs.scholastic.com/
    • I will do an order each month
  • We have a new morning space! Please help remind your child to go to the Media Center every morning from now on. We have made this change to help minimize the number of room changes we are making in the mornings.
  • Please join us for Open House this coming Monday (8/12) from 6:30pm-7:30 pm. Open House will be split into two sessions so that parents with multiple kiddos can make it to each classroom. I hope you can all make it!

Hi Parents!
We had a great first day today! I cannot believe how incredibly lucky I am to have all of your kiddos this year. Thank you all so much for filling out and sending back the many forms for me. LAST Week In M3..

I cannot believe that this year is coming to an end! I adore each and every one of your children and cannot wait to see the amazing year I know they'll have in 3rd grade.

Monday is a full day of school.
Tuesday and Wednesday are half days!
Please remember to send a transportation note if your kiddo will go home differently. Feel free to send one note for all three days on Monday if it will be different all week.

Please still send your child with their backpack and folder on Monday. I will be sending home a sealed envelope that says "Do not open until May 2022". I had each child write a letter to their future selves and this weekend I am going to add in a note from me. I will also send home any other odds and ends that I have forgotten about.

On Tuesday the kids do not have to bring anything to school.

On Wednesday the kids are not allowed to bring anything to school. I'm sorry for any inconvenience but this is a county rule. If your child brings a lunch or water bottle it will need to be completely disposable (paper bags, ziplocks, etc.).

We'll play some fun review games next week and just enjoy our last three days together!
