Next week in M3...

I am so amazed with the kids this week. They have completely blown me away! I cannot wait to reward them with lots of fun activities next week!

THANK YOU to all who sent in items for our STEM day! It was a blast! I'll post pictures/videos to Bloomz.

Reminders:
-Next week is only a 3 day week! Tuesday and Wednesday are EARLY RELEASE! Please send a note in your child's folder if their transportation will change.
- Please allow your child to wear their favorite (school appropriate) PJs to school on Monday for our Polar Express day!
-Report cards will be coming home the week that we return from break.
-If you signed up to bring in anything for the holiday party please send that in as soon as possible.
-If you need an invitation to join our Class Dojo please let me know.
-The temperature has dropped! Please make sure your children are wearing the appropriate clothing. I cannot take them outside to play otherwise.


Next week we will finish up line plots and do activities activities that surround The Polar Express. We will compare and contrast the book and the movie, write from another characters point of view, practice comprehension and do STEM activities.

If anybody has any empty toilet paper rolls/paper towel rolls or pool noodles they would be willing to donate please send them in next week. We will be doing a STEM day on Friday using those materials.

Don’t forget Math Strategy Night is TONIGHT at 6pm in the 2-5 Media Center! Does math not feel the same anymore when your student comes home with homework? That’s because standards and strategies have changed over the last 5 years!  Come tonight to learn addition and subtraction strategies we use daily in 2nd grade.

Next week in M3...

We had a great time seeing the Nutcracker toady! I am so proud of the kiddos and their behavior. Not to mention how wonderful they all looked!

Reminders & Announcements:
-The book fair will be at the K-1 campus all next week. You can take your student before or after school. Of course you can always order online as well.
- There will be a special showing of the new Star Wars movie on Sunday December 17th at NCG in Marietta @ 9am. Deadline to buy tickets is Monday (December 4th).
- December 5th is Crafty Hog spirit night from 4-10pm
-December 7th is the 5th grade performance at Griffin MS. We will also be seeing their performance during school that day.
-Have you bought your yearbook yet? Do it this month before prices increase!
- We had so many scholastic book orders this month that we received 14 new books for our classroom free of charge! Thank you SO much to parents who have ordered.
-Another HUGE thank you to Mrs. Vincent and Ms. Kennedy for donating snacks to our class.
- As you've seen I started using Class DOJO this week. So far the kids love it and it excites them. I'm working on a reward chart for whole class points. At the end of each week if your individual student has 25 points or more they will be able to choose a prize on Friday afternoon.

The Week AFTER Next in M3...

We've made it to Thanksgiving break! I'll miss the kiddos so much over this next week and hope you all have a wonderful time together.

We had a blast celebrating Cranberry Day together. A huge thank you to Mrs. Harms for making the cranberry muffins for us to taste- they were delicious!

Reminders and announcements:
- I messed up! The Six Flags reading logs must be entered by March 1st! So I'll need them returned before then. Let's say February 19th so there's some time (:
- I am completely out of snacks to give kids who forget them. Please try to make sure you're sending one each day. If you would like to donate snacks that would be wonderful as well.
- Over the break please encourage your kids to keep reading! I am sending home a Thanksgiving Break reading log (this also counts for your Six Flags reading). If students complete the reading log they will get a prize when we return.
- I am also sending home a small packet of fun practice that they can do. If they also return that they will get another prize.
- Don't forget about Mobymax.com and kidsa-z.com
- I've added more dates to our Mystery Reader sign up! The kids love having you all come in.
- If you have not returned the permission form for your child to see the Nutcracker please do so ASAP! I would hate to leave anybody behind.

Next week in M3....

One more week until Thanksgiving break! I hope everybody has something fun and relaxing planned.

News and Reminders:
- Next Tuesday Penny Wars will be going on! Check out the flyer below for more details!
- Our field trip to see the Nutcracker is quickly approaching! If I did not have a permission slip for your child a second one went home on Thursday. Please please sign and return these on Monday. I would hate for any of the kiddos to miss out.
-Our lost and found on 2-5 campus is OVERFLOWING! If your child is missing a water bottle, jacket, book, etc. please have them check lost and found. Everything left next Friday will be donated.
- Yearbook order forms were sent home earlier this week. Order now because prices go up in December! You'll love the book this year!
- Our Thanksgiving lunch is on Monday at 11:13. You're all invited to arrive 15 minutes early and come on down to our room to enjoy a quick show that the kids have put together for you.
-I am sending home something today regarding the Six Flags reading log. Students will need to have this completed by March 1st. This is a long time from now but if they finish before then they can go ahead and bring them to me. If your child completes the 6 hours or more of reading they will get a free ticket to Six Flags!

Next week in M3...

Reminders...
*We have a Thanksgiving lunch with parents on November 13th at 11:13. Please send back the slip to let us know if you are coming so the cafeteria staff can prepare enough food.
*Please stress coughing in your elbow and washing hands to the kids. We have lots of germs floating around during this time of the year.
*A form is going home today regarding Scholastic orders. I will start submitting a large class order at the end of each month. If you want these as holiday gifts just let me know and I'll get them home to you secretly. :) We get free books for our classroom every time you all place an order.
*NO SCHOOL on Tuesday November 7th!
*We will be going on a field trip to see The Nutcracker on December 1st. The permission slip and donation for this was sent home at the beginning of the year (think back to the the $14 donation you made). If I have not received a permission slip for your child yet I will send home another copy next week.

It has been a fantastic conference week! I was able to meet with at least one parent of each kid! How awesome! Today I am sending home a spelling choice board. This is NOT required homework. It is optional spelling practice.
I am also working on a packet to send home with extra place value practice and reading comprehension questions for those who would like to practice.

*Second grade is considering hosting a math night for parents. We would love to show you all the strategies we teach and how they are done. Please comment and let me know if that is something you would be interested in.

We are trying to keep this academic, so if you are currently doing a novel study, please encourage students to dress as one of the characters! **No scary or violent costumes**

- ALL of next week will be early release due to conferences! Please send in a note if your child's transportation will change. I look forward to seeing you all at conferences.

- If you signed up to bring any of the items for the STEM Lab activity please remember that they will need those by Tuesday (whole milk, table salt, and gallon ziplocks). I heard a rumor that they're making something yummy!

A note from Mrs. Bosworth -
I am so excited for the Oct. 5th PTA Performance for 2nd Grade!  I have one small request:  One of their songs needs a kazoo. I was trying to purchase it for them, but while one kazoo is cheap, 180 of them is not.  Could parents please send in a kazoo for their child to use for the performance on Oct. 5th?  Please bring it in by Monday, Oct. 2nd.  Students will use them for rehearsals that week.

The King Springs PTA Reflections Committee will gather and jury the art with special emphasis given to how the art represents this years’ theme:

The student artists compete with other King Springs artists at their own grade level and within their category.  Winners at the King Springs level then advance to the Jessye Coleman Council, then to the State and then National levels.

Next Week in M3...

Another week (well, three day week) in the books! We got lots done in these three days, however next week we will be playing catch up from the days we missed.

Last night there was a question on the homework about "making ten". Due to our friend Irma, we had not gotten to that yet. We learned about it today and the kids ROCKED IT!

After catching up with last week...
We will be learning:
Math- We will begin learning about coins and their value
Grammar- Continuing with context clues 
Phonics- Long a digraph 
Reading- Continuing with how characters respond to major events and challenges 
Writing- We will begin the process of publishing our personal narratives
Science- All about matter! We will be having lots of fun with this one. 

Don't forget:
- Support The Pride is still going on! The class with the most donations gets a Popsicle party! 
- Picture day forms - picture day is September 22nd. I've only received one picture order packet so far.
- Tell your kids how awesome they are ☺

I cannot believe we have already finished our sixth week of school. This year is really flying by! I continue to feel so proud of these kids and love teaching them.

Next week in M3...

Last week was another fantastic week in our classroom. These kids amaze me daily. Look out for pictures from our week on Bloomz!
Important Information: 
-We do NOT have school this Monday due to Labor Day. 
-The KSE Foundation's Support the Pride fundraiser begins next Tuesday.
-Please make sure you return your child's field trip permission form as soon as possible for our in school field trip on October 5th.
- Picture day is coming up! September 19th. More information can be found on the King Springs home page. 
- You can continue to order Scholastic books online or by sending the form back in to me until September 30th. 

What we are learning:

Reading: We are wrapping up finding meaning in a book through illustrations and words, and beginning to learn about asking and answering questions while reading.

Content: We are wrapping up Georgia regions and learning about healthy choices for health (such as healthy food and good hygiene).

Happy Friday to you all!
Thank you so much to everybody who took the time to come out to Open House last night. I enjoyed seeing you all again and meeting some of you for the first time. I have the most incredible class of students and you are all to thank for that.

This week has been super busy and loads of fun! Today we welcomed a new friend to our class! Welcome JaNiylah! On Monday we will have another new friend as well. Welcome Amelia! 

We celebrated Karthick's Birthday this week and next week we'll celebrate Khronus' and JaNiylah's.

Next week in M3...

Hello all! We had another great week this week! The students have been working hard and we'll have some awesome things to show you at Open House.

Please remember that students must turn in their completed homework on Friday mornings.

Important news and reminders:
-Next week is going to be an exciting one with the eclipse on Monday! We have planned a rotation for the students in the morning to learn all about the solar eclipse. Our rotations will be finished before lunch time and we will watch the eclipse on our interactive board in the afternoon.
-REMINDER: Dr. Szwec sent out an email yesterday afternoon stating that absences to that day will be excused. If you are sending your child to school but wish to pick them up early so they can experience the eclipse with you, we ask the you wait until 11:15 so they are counted as "in attendance" for the day.
-Chess club is canceled on Monday.
-Open House is on Thursday the 24th at 6pm! I hope to see you all there 😊

Week of August 14th

Important Information and Reminders: 
-I sent out an email regarding the Solar Eclipse day that is coming up. If you have any questions about this day, feel free to email me.
-We were just informed that Open House is rescheduled to Thursday, August 24th at 6:00 pm. I would love to see you all there
 -KSE will be having a Braves night on September 21st. Be on the lookout for an email from me regarding this and giving you a little extra info. 
-If there are any transportation changes, they must be sent to me in writing.
-Next week will be using styrofoam cups for a place value activity. If you are able to send any in please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated! (:


What we are learning:
Phonics: We are spending one last week reviewing spelling patterns from 1st grade.  
Grammar: We will continue learning about nouns. This week we will focus on proper nouns. 
Reading: We will be finishing up setting up our reader's workshop (Daily 5) and talking about the importance of asking and answering questions while reading. 
Math: We will review skip counting a little bit more. The kids seem to be getting the hang of it! The we will begin learning about place value within a three digit number. 
Writing: We will be talking about writer's workshop, how 2nd graders use their writer's notebook, and what makes a good writer. 
Content: We are going to be talking about shadows and the phases/patterns of the moon. 
Spelling: We will have no spelling words again this week. 


News from our performing arts program:
Dear parents,
You recently received a flyer regarding the yearly Performing Arts fund.  This fund is used to bring excellent in-house performances to our school every year.  It also pays for our 2nd graders to attend a performance of the Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker and for our 5th graders to attend a performance of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.  Please note:  the flyer you received also serves as your child’s permission slip to attend these performances. 

Please consider supporting your child’s arts education by giving a tax-deductible donation and join us in making exposure to the Arts possible for your children.  We kindly request a donation of $14, but any amount will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!
